  • 1917 - The beginning of a great brand

    Three of Japan's leading optical manufacturers merge to form a comprehensive, fully integrated optical company known as Nippon Kogaku K.K.

  • 1932 - The creation of a name

    It was decided that "NIKKOR" was to be the brand name for all Nikon camera lenses.

  • 1952 - Establishing a community

    "NIKKOR Club" was founded in 1952 by Mr. Masao Nagaoka (1897-1974), in those days president of Nippon Kogaku K.K. (alias Nikon Corporation). Membership was open to everybody - foreigners, photographers and collectors.

  • 1925 - JOICO Microscope is launched

    It may not be well-known, but Nikon has been developing and manufacturing microscopes since it was founded in 1917. This led to the launch of the JOICO Microscope - Nikon's 1st microscope.

  • 1953 - Setting foot in U.S.A

    Nikon Inc. was established in the United States of America following an announcement in The New York Times on the superior quality of Nikon cameras and NIKKOR lenses.

  • 1959 - Launching of Nikon's first SLR - Nikon F

    Nikon F was finally completed based on our technical know-how and skills and its introduction on the market was announced to the press in March 1959. A preview was held in April on a grand scale with the attendance of many people concerned with photography and the press in Tokyo as the starting point, then in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.

  • 1968 - Capturing Europe

    Nikon Europe N.V. (now Nikon Europe B.V.) was established in the Netherlands.

  • 1971 - Conquering space

    NASA placed orders for Nikon cameras to be used on Apollo missions resulting in the Nikon Photomic FTN to be loaded on the APOLLO 15 spacecraft.

  • 1986 - Creating presence in Hong Kong

    Nikon extended its presence in Asia with the establishment of Nikon Hong Kong Ltd.

  • 1990 - Establishment of Nikon (Thailand) co. Ltd.

    The first overseas production factory was established in Thailand.

  • 1995 - Introducing the first DSLR

    The E2/E2s cameras were launched.

  • 1997 - The launch of COOLPIX 100 / 300

    More digital cameras were added to the expanding range of cameras.

  • 2001 - Nikon Malaysia opens its doors

    Nikon furthers extends its global footprint with the establishment of Nikon (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

  • 2003 - A new face is revealed

    A new brand symbol was created for the ever-growing Nikon Group.

  • 2007 - A vision is defined

    We launched our new aspiration - "Meeting needs. Exceeding expectations".

  • 2008 - Turning 75

    Nikon celebrates its 75th anniversary of NIKKOR lenses. It is said that NIKKOR lenses gained worldwide recognition in the late 1940s and early 1950s through photographs that were published in 'Life' magazine.

  • 2009 - Celebrating 50 great years of the F-mount

    A new logo was launch to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Nikon F-mount. The basic structure of the F-mount has remained unchanged for half a century, serving as a bridge between NIKKOR lenses and a steady succession of Nikon SLR camera bodies. The logo expresses an image of capturing infinitely extending light and gifting it to future generations.

  • 2010 - Cumulative production of NIKKOR lenses reached 55 million units

    Since launching in 1959, NIKKOR lenses have been extremely well received by a great number of photo enthusiasts and professional photographers. Total production of NIKKOR lenses reached fifty million in August 2009 with production continuing at a steady rate over the past year.

  • 2010 - Nikon Centre makes it big

    Nikon Centre Kuala Lumpur is known as the largest Nikon Centre in Asia, outside of Japan.

  • 2010 - Nikon stays firmly at the top

    Nikon maintained its position as the top DSLR brand in Malaysia for the 6th consecutive year.
